Meet Dr. Dana Gionta, PHD

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Dana Gionta is a licensed clinical psychologist and marriage and family therapist with extensive experience working with adults, couples, families, and executives. She provides psychotherapy and executive coaching to individuals and executives. She specializes in life and career transitions, relationship issues, couples and family issues, anxiety and depression, health issues, stress management, and boundaries. She uses cognitive behavior therapy, emotion-focused family systems therapy, insight-oriented therapy, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness-based approaches. Additional areas of expertise include executive coaching.

Dr. Gionta obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Rhode Island, an APA-accredited program, a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and a bachelor’s degree in Business from the Stern School of Business; She completed her clinical training at Yale-affiliated West Haven, VA. Before joining Greenwich Psychology Group, Dr. Gionta worked with Yale students and faculty and was an adjunct professor of graduate-level courses at the University of New Haven, focusing on psychological testing, organizational behavior, motivation, and morals.

Dr. Gionta works well with couples to improve trust and communication, decrease conflict, recover from betrayal, and improve emotional and physical intimacy. She works closely with couples to identify and enhance maladaptive dynamics and build on the strengths that initially brought the couple together. She utilizes emotionally focused therapy and myriad theoretical orientations that de-escalate conflict, cultivate mutual understanding and respect, and transform communication patterns to foster intimacy and rebuild trust within your relationship.

Dr. Gionta uses a biopsychosocial approach in her practice. She considers the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence how her clients feel and how those factors impact overall health. Her work is informed by evidence-based and insight-oriented treatment.
