Meet Dr. Melanie Kressel

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Melanie Kressel is a Clinical Psychologist in New York State. Her training includes an undergraduate degree and master’s degree in psychology from New York University, a master’s degree and doctorate from Yeshiva University, Ferfkauf Graduate School of Psychology, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University Counseling Center. Her focus is on treating adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationships, body image and eating disorders, family stress, identity and adjustment issues.

Dr. Kressel’s dedication to education and clinical training is unparalleled. She has received additional training at Pratt Institute’s Counseling and Wellness Services, Manhattan Psychiatric Center, and New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. Her advanced training in Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R) at The Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and The Integrated Treatment of Eating Disorders at The Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia (CSAB), a division of The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP), further solidifies her expertise. This commitment to learning and growth enables her to understand each client’s unique struggles better and improve their quality of life.

Dr. Kressel’s practice is guided by a biopsychosocial approach, considering the biological, psychological, and social factors influencing her clients’ well-being. Her work is informed by evidence-based treatment and focused on finding solutions. She constructs individual treatment plans for each client, including a combination of cognitive behavioral methods, stress reduction techniques, and an Exploratory relational framework. This approach ensures that each client receives a tailored treatment plan that is effective and focused on their unique needs.

Dr. Kressel’s practice is centered around the collaborative nature of relationships. She believes that building trust, understanding, and flexibility is crucial to tailor treatment to meet each patient’s unique needs. Her mission is to provide the highest quality of care, and clients often experience improved quality of life early in treatment. This collaborative approach ensures that clients feel involved and valued in their own healing process.

She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Eating Disorders Association. Dr. Kressel has authored numerous journal articles.
