Emily Maroney is a NY-licensed and registered, board-certified art therapist and master of social work with extensive clinical experience. She received her Master of Art in Creative Arts Therapy from Hofstra University, graduating with distinction. Following post-graduate training in trauma and DBT and obtaining certification in TF-CBT, she received her Master of Social Work from Boise State University, graduating as a University chapter member of national honor society, Phi Kappa Phi.
Emily works with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance misuse, developmental disabilities, behavioral issues, spectrum disorders, as well as life transitions and relationship issues. A strengths-based, trauma-informed approach utilizing active listening, empathy, validation, and respect underpins her work, creating a safe space for trust to develop within a collaborative, solution-focused therapeutic alliance.
Emily’s approach is rooted in the biopsychosocial model, which considers clients within the context of their biological, psychological, and social experiences. She employs evidence-based and developmentally appropriate approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, MI, mindfulness, TF-CBT, art, and/ or play therapy, in individual and parent-child sessions. These methods are designed to foster trust, insight, motivation, and healing.
Her clinical experience includes working with adults and children at the Westchester Medical Center, NYC Health and Hospitals, Backcountry Wellness, and home-based services. While talk therapy is the primary mode of communication with adult clients, play and art therapies are the primary language child clients use. These modalities allow children to access and express feelings held at a deeper level and provide them a means to express and address what they may struggle to find words for, serving as a vehicle for communication and a means of entry into a deeper discussion and understanding of the issues impacting them.
Emily deeply respects the courage and strength it requires to engage in therapy, and she treats each client with the utmost respect in a supportive and validating environment. She recognizes that adults and parents of child clients are active collaborators throughout the therapeutic relationship. By reflecting client’s strengths and resourcefulness back to them, empowerment and growth are facilitated.

At Greenwich Psychology Group, our symptom checker helps clients track their symptoms of depression or anxiety. Taking the assessment doesn't provide a formal diagnosis, but it can help you determine what next steps you may need to take. The evaluation uses a series of questions to review the feelings and symptoms you've experienced over the past two weeks. The results will help you distinguish if professional help is the best next step.
