Why Do People Seek Therapy?

People have many different reasons for coming to psychotherapy. A commonality is that therapy is a time to reflect and learn how to take the steps towards a healthier and happier direction. Some may have difficulty handling a significant life transition, such as career issues, Family issues, or battling an illness. Some may want help in dealing with issues they’ve experienced to some degree throughout their lives, such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, career issues, or addiction issues. Some may be at a point in their lives when they wish to learn more about themselves to be more effective in their life goals or discover their sense of purpose or meaning.

What Can I Expect In A Therapy Session?

The process of therapy is different for each individual. But a commonality is that the therapeutic process is a journey toward increased awareness, insight, and a better quality of life. Therapy is also a process of self-discovery: of one’s potentials, strengths, and innate ability to heal. Our ultimate goal is to foster growth and change, leading to you feeling more comfortable and productive in your life. Please see this page to learn more about approaches to therapy and how we will collaborate in deciding which one will be right for you.

How Long Does Therapy Take?

Therapy can be short-term or long-term, depending on the reason for coming to therapy. Therapy can address a specific problem or address long-standing issues or a patient’s desire for personal and professional development.

How Often Would I Come To Therapy?

That depends on your reason for coming to therapy. Some patients come every week, and others come less frequently. Some patients occasionally come twice a week if they have had a particular issue such as a break-up or other reasons they need extra support that week. We want you to attend as often, or as rare, as is best for your situation!

Take the GPG Symptom Checker

At Greenwich Psychology Group, our symptom checker helps clients track their symptoms of depression or anxiety. Taking the assessment doesn't provide a formal diagnosis, but it can help you determine what next steps you may need to take. The evaluation uses a series of questions to review the feelings and symptoms you've experienced over the past two weeks. The results will help you distinguish if professional help is the best next step.
